President & CEO
Mike Kubic is the President and CEO of Clean Wave Technologies, a role that he has held since cofounding the company in 2008. Mike brings over 20 years of experience in strategic product development, operations and business management, and enterprise leadership, as well as specific technical expertise in the design and manufacturing of complex high-power electromechanical systems. Throughout his career, Mike has influenced numerous leading-edge technology developments in electric vehicles, wireless telecommunications, and aerospace and defense.
Prior to founding Clean Wave, Mike was a consultant to Tesla Motors for the development and manufacturing of the original electric drive system for Tesla’s first vehicle, the Tesla Roadster, a high-performance electric-powered sports car.
Previously, Mike held a variety of leadership roles in business, engineering, and operations management at Accelewave Wireless Solutions, Remec Wireless Systems, and Spectrian Corporation, working in the development and manufacturing of innovative high-power RF electronic systems for commercial wireless telecommunications networks. Mike spent the early part of his career working in diverse engineering and product development roles at TRW Space and Electronics Group and Rantec Electronic Systems, supporting the aerospace and defense industries with the development and integration of advanced high-power RF antenna electronics and test systems.
Mike holds a MSME from Stanford University and a BSCE from Carnegie Mellon University.
Vice President, Engineering
Rudy Garriga is the Vice President of Engineering of Clean Wave Technologies, a role that he has held since cofounding the company in 2008. Rudy brings over 30 years of experience in technology innovation, product development, and engineering management. He is an expert in machine design, electromechanical systems, and materials science, as well as manufacturing operations, strategies, and processes.
Prior to founding Clean Wave, Rudy was the lead engineer at Tesla Motors for development and production release of the original high-performance electric motor for Tesla’s first vehicle, the Tesla Roadster, a high-performance electric-powered sports car.
Previously, Rudy held various senior engineering and management positions at leading semiconductor process equipment companies, such as ASML, LAM Research, Varian Associates, Eaton Corporation, and Applied Materials, where he led teams to develop revolutionary robotic processing equipment for plasma etching, CVD, PVD, and photoresist coating that represented pioneering advances in the evolution of silicon wafers used in microelectronics manufacturing.
Rudy has also successfully run his own consumer products company - Slick 7 Products - for the past 30 years, as the world's leading supplier of high-performance electric motors and components for the competitive slot car racing market.
Rudy holds a MSMSE, a BSMSE, and a BSME from the University of California, Berkeley.
Vice President, Corporate Development & Strategy
Kevin Chen is the Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategy for Clean Wave Technologies. In this role, Kevin is leading the company's fundraising and potential partnership efforts, along with advising the management team and board of directors on corporate and strategic matters.
Prior to joining Clean Wave, Kevin performed a similar role at Heptagon Advanced Micro-Optics, an innovative mobile optics company based in Singapore, Switzerland, and the USA. He led the fast-growing company's M&A and partnership efforts, as well as performed multiple leading functions in Heptagon's fundraising. Prior to Heptagon, Kevin was with GGV Capital, an expansion-stage venture capital firm focused primarily on hardware and mobile components and applications. He has also worked extensively in the memory and storage industry, spending over 5 years at SMART Modular Technologies, working on M&A and corporate structuring projects, including debt offerings and an IPO on NASDAQ. He started his career as a consultant at the management consulting firm Bain & Company.
Kevin holds BS and MS degrees in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management with a focus on Finance and a minor in Economics from Stanford University. He also holds an MS in Operations Research with a focus on Financial Engineering from Northwestern University. He later graduated with Honors for an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Chief Financial Officer
Joe Pagano is the Chief Financial Officer for Clean Wave Technologies. Joe brings more than 27 years of senior-level financial management experience in accounting, business support, financial planning and analysis, treasury, M&A and investor relations, internal audit and tax functions. Joe prides himself in financial transparency and reporting. His experience includes venture-backed startups to multimillion dollar corporations with values in excess of US$500M.
Previously, Joe has held a variety of financial leadership positions, which include extensive operational experience with innovative startup companies, multi-national application enterprises, and software development companies. As a corporate officer, his responsibilities have included corporate financial planning and analysis, capital commitment planning, benchmarking, long-range planning and auditor interactions. He has been the principal interface with board of directors and audit committees, has led M&A transactions, and has deep experience in debt management. Working collaboratively, Joe has a proven track record in creating shareholder value.
Joe holds a BS in Accounting from the University of Arizona and is a Certified Public Accountant. He is also a member of the CA Society of CPAs, as well as a board member and financial officer for several community-focused organizations.
Director, International Business Development
Mike Hong is the Director of International Business Development for Clean Wave Technologies, a position that he has held since 2010. Mike brings more than 15 years of international business development experience to Clean Wave, specifically in the high-tech automotive and electric motor industries. He has extensive knowledge of developing, marketing, and selling products in the international market, negotiating with international customers and suppliers, and global sourcing of high-quality, low-cost materials. Mike is a strategic business partner with deep technical and working knowledge of the electric and hybrid electric vehicle industry and provides outstanding support in developing and maintaining customer and partner relationships.
Previously, Mike was the International Marketing and Project Manager for Fukuta Electric & Machinery Company, where he set up worldwide sales channels and coordinated new product development specifically in the electric vehicle motor space, working with Tesla Motors as a customer. He has a very hands-on approach, working closely with customers and partners to establish and build long-term, productive, and mutually successful business relationships.
Mike holds a MSEE from National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences.
Director, Electrical and Software Engineering
Paul Carvell is the Director of Electrical and Software Engineering for Clean Wave Technologies. Paul brings a wealth of expertise and experience in motor control systems for the automotive industry, especially for the electric and hybrid electric vehicle markets. Paul has worked in both commercial and military vehicle market sectors, where he has successfully developed numerous applications for electric drive systems in vehicles. At Clean Wave, Paul is responsible for all aspects of the electrical and software engineering functions, as well as managing the electrical and software engineering teams in support of cross-functional research and development activities through all stages of the product lifecycle, from concept through to volume production.
Prior to joining Clean Wave and early in his career, Paul founded Ashurst Logistic Electronics, a company specializing in customized motion control systems for the automotive, military, and industrial markets, first serving as the Technical Director and then as the Managing Director of the company. In 1998, Ashurst Logistic Electronics was acquired by Emoteq Corporation, a subsidiary of Allied Motion Technologies, after which Paul served as the CEO of Emoteq UK. In 2003, Paul relocated to the headquarters of Emoteq in the USA, where he served as the Vice President of Motor Drives.
Most recently, Paul was the Chief Engineer at BAE Systems in the HybriDrive division, where he worked at the forefront of both series and parallel hybrid systems for vehicles in the commercial and military markets. Successful vehicle programs on which Paul worked included the development of automotive electronic cooling systems for Airtex, fuel cell systems for Ford Motor Company, electronic tachometers for BMW, electronically stabilized headlamps for Alpha Romeo, parallel hybrid systems for the global truck program, and series hybrid systems for public transport buses.
Paul holds a BSEE with honors from the University of Brighton.
Alfredo Del Rio
Director, Mechanical Engineering
Alfredo Del Rio is the Director of Mechanical Engineering for Clean Wave Technologies. Alfredo brings more than 20 years of experience from the medical device, telecommunications, and aerospace industries. Alfredo has a strong background in engineering research and development, project management, manufacturing engineering, and quality assurance. He has a proven record of success in developing and launching new products in highly regulated industries, taking on a variety of responsibilities involving the mechanical design of machined, injection molded, and die-cast parts, thermal testing and analysis, project scheduling, and supplier management.
Prior to joining Clean Wave, Alfredo’s detail-oriented and process-driven nature put him in a position to lead cross-functional product development teams at American Medical Systems. These teams successfully launched the MoXy 650kJ Fiber product into the medical industry, as well as implemented Agile Product Lifecycle Management software across the Silicon Valley business unit. Alfredo was instrumental in solving significant thermal design, manufacturability, and quality issues to enable the launch of the XPS 180W GreenLight Laser.
Alfredo holds an MSME from the University of Southern California and a BSME from Loyola Marymount University. He also earned certification in CMII Basics from the North American University & CMII Research Institute and co-holds a US patent for a temperature-controllable device.
Director, Human Resources
Cristina Cavani is the Director of Human Resources for Clean Wave Technologies. Cristina brings over 25 years of broad business management and operations knowledge, including 13 years of extensive human resources experience. Her comprehensive background includes building human resources and business operations infrastructure for both early-stage startups and Fortune 500 companies in the high-tech, pharmaceutical, biotech, construction, and food services industries.
At Clean Wave, Cristina is responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of all areas of human resources, including recruiting and talent acquisition, performance management, labor and employee relations, compensation and benefits administration, insurance and regulatory compliance, as well as building a positive workplace culture in a growing organization.
Prior to joining Clean Wave, Cristina was an independent consultant committed to supporting and assisting innovative startup companies with the development of policies, procedures, and best practices to attract and retain exceptional employees. Her previous experience working with top-tier organizations, such as Medicines360 and Institute for OneWorld Health, provided the opportunity to be instrumental in the successful creation of unique business models, with identification and establishment of highly creative teams focused on solving socioeconomic issues, both in the USA and internationally. She has experience hiring and building multinational teams in Asia, including creation of corporate infrastructure and operations, recruiting, and training to support long-term sustainability.
